Hello, everyone and a warm welcome to new subscribers!
"Lake Effect" (above) was selected for DRIFT, an exhibition at the Bau Gallery in Beacon, NY beginning next month. I made this piece during my Chautauqua Institution Artist Residency last August when I experimented using the environment as my collaborator -- in this case, the paper was soaked in lake water and rubbed with graphite against the trunk of a nearby tree. I incised the wet paper with lake sand and stones for additional texture. Back in the studio, I added paint and charcoal and pastel marks. The gallery's opening reception for this show is Saturday, August 8, 5:30 - 8pm.
I'm so pleased to share that two of my paintings were selected for the summer issue of Superpresent Magazine, a cultural feast of essays, poetry, and art. This issue's theme is about Mapping, Order a hardcopy or download it here.
I just finished four online workshops with British artist Bethany Korht where we explored landscape with watery media, line, paint, and monotype printing! Below are a couple of samples of what I managed to create: on the right is an exploration of water and on the left is an example of my primitive monotype skills!!
